The Danish tourism promotion agency VisitDenmark has made a shockingly strange advertising move, which seems to have proved blunderous in the end.
In brief, the viral video showing a young mom talking about a one-night meeting with some touristm, was posted on YouTube. The baby in her hands is, thus, the outcome of that night. What could have made such a company (it is tax-funded, by the way, and you should know how huge the taxes are in Denmark)?
The CEO of VisitDenmark, Dorte Kiilerich, sees the story in her discussion in Danish newspaper Politiken as a sweet story of a young modern woman living in a free society and taking responsibility for her decisions. Well, sorry, but I don’t buy it. Out of all the wonders of Denmark, out of all its beauties, what is making those people create a shallow story of a shall0w woman in a shallow encounter? For God’s sake, you have Andersen’s tales, you have been promoting the image of “Wonderful Copenhagen”, you have the Little Mermaid, the Nyhavn harbour, Tivoli and Legoland, you have the Hamlet’s castle in Helsinger, and you do a good deal of nice events there. I’ve spent a lot of time in Copenhagen and I do love its atmosphere. There’s nothing to think up – you have it all.
This video had a lot of views on YouTube and there was a lot of noise about this. The response was probably not so good, ’cause the CEO, according to The Copenhagen Post, resigned from her position.
P.S. You can see the video here, just in case.
